Illicium verum belongs to the Magnoliaceae family, this tree comes from eastern Asia. Distilled from the seeds, the essential oil Star Anise (Illicium verum) has traditionally been indicated in:
- Aerocolia (excess gas in the colon)
- Aerophagia
- asthmatic bronchitis
- Dyspepsia
- Spasmodic enterocolitis
- Menopause
- Oligomenorrhea
- spasmodic cough
Medicinal properties:
- Carminative, playing a global role in the digestive system, calming stomach discomfort, decreases aerophagia, dyspepsia spasmodic enterocolitis, decreases excess gas in the colon (aerocolia), flatulence and relieves feelings of nausea.
- Expectorant, soothes sore throats and respiratory conditions, making it effective for spasmodic coughs and asthmatic bronchitis.
-Stimulates the production of estrogen and could be useful to relieve premenstrual tension, menstrual cramps, oligomenorrhea and menopause.
- Diuretic, it is useful in the management of cystitis and oliguria.
It can be mixed with essential oil of cardamom , cypress and mandarin .

Dosage: For stomach discomfort, mix 3 drops of essential oil with 5 drops of Safflower vegetable oil and apply to the belly. For respiratory conditions, mix 2 drops of essential oil with 10 drops of Safflower vegetable oil and apply to the chest and back. In oligomenorrhea, mix 3 drops of essential oil with 5 drops of Safflower vegetable oil and apply to the base of the belly and the soles of the feet.
