The respiratory incentive or spirometer is a device for respiratory rehabilitation and lung expansion for adult and pediatric use for personal use. It is recommended to use a spirometer after surgery or when you have a lung disease such as pneumonia. A spirometer is a device used to help keep your lungs healthy. Using it teaches you how to take slow, deep breaths. Composed of three chambers: first chamber with capacity up to 600 cc/sec, second chamber with capacity up to 900 cc/sec and third chamber with capacity up to 1200 cc/sec. Inspiration one-way valve with filter. Balls of different color for each chamber. Plastic nozzle connected to a 12 mm x 30 cm corrugated hose. Wide and solid base with label for patient identification. Reg. St. 2012DM-0009046.

To use the spirometer:

  • Sit down and hold the device.
  • Place the mouthpiece of the incentive spirometer in your mouth. Be sure to make a good seal over the mouthpiece with your lips.
  • Breathe out (breathe out) normally.

The ball in the first chamber of the incentive spirometer will rise as you inhale (600cc/sec capacity):

  • Try to get this piece to go as high as you can.
  • The doctor telling you how deep to inhale.

The ball in the second chamber of the incentive spirometer is similar to a ball (900 cc/sec capacity).

  • Try to get this piece to go as high as you can.
  • The doctor telling you how deep to inhale.

The ball of the third chamber of the incentive spirometer is similar to a ball (capacity of 1200 cc/sec).

  • Try to get this piece to go as high as you can.
  • Your goal should be to make sure that this ball stays in the middle of the chamber as you inhale.
  • If you inhale too quickly, the ball will shoot to the top.
  • If you inhale too slowly, the ball will remain at the bottom.

Hold your breath for 3 to 5 seconds. Then breathe out slowly.

Take 10 to 15 breaths into the spirometer every 1 to 2 hours, or as directed by your doctor.
